Investing in Certified Seed e-learning

Strategy in action …

CSGA E-Learning

Since 2009, Synthesis has been working with the Canadian Seed Growers’ Association (CSGA) to create awareness and understanding of Canada’s Certified seed system with stakeholders in the seed value chain.

The development of a training tool for seed retailers across Canada is a critical element of communications for this audience, and is focused on developing the knowledge required to help educate grower customers on the benefits Certified seed provides for individual growers and the Canadian seed industry. Participants will gain a full understanding of the quality assurance, innovation, traceability, and return on investment Canadian farmers receive when they purchase Certified seed. Topics include:

  • how Certified seed is produced;
  • the role it plays in bringing crop innovation and opportunity to growers;
  • how it delivers quality assurance;
  • the role it plays in managing risk and maintaining markets for Canadian-grown crops.
  • how to assess the value of Certified seed from an input cost perspective compared to bin-run or common seed;
  • how seed retailers help their grower customers determine and understand the significant return on investment they receive when purchasing Certified seed.

This training tool is built on an eLearning platform allowing users maximum interactivity and accessibility. Retailers can access the “Investing in certified Seed” training course online at caar.ca using multiple platforms.

Certified Crop Advisors are eligible to receive 0.5 CEU credits in Crop Management.

The “Investing in Certified Seed” training tool was launched in February 2016.

Synthesis continues to support CSGA with its education program and is in the initial phase of development of a seed growers version of this tool.

Synthesis provides services ranging from market research and stakeholder consultation to communications strategy and tactical plan development, as well as tactical implementation including the development of targeted training tools.
